Grapefruit is one of the most attractive, sweet-smelling and commonly used of all the essential oils and prized for the ability to purify, enhance health and uplift the spirit. Known to contain antioxidant compounds, grapefruit essential oil can be used as an antimicrobial to suppress the growth of microorganisms or as an anti-depressant and a lymphatic stimulant which enhances the appetite, elevates the mood and alleviates stress.
Origin and Composition
Derived from the fruits’ peel via cold press distillation, the aroma of grapefruit essential oil is pungent, fruity and uplifting. Originally from Asia, but now found all over the world, grapefruit essential oil has a sharp, refreshing smell and varies from clear to pale yellow in color with a watery viscosity.
Grapefruit essential oil may also affect biological factors such as heart rate, blood pressure and immune function and is effective at detoxification and against muscle fatigue.
For aromatherapy use. Also as a room freshener, purifier or to boost digestion. As a mist or topical solution (with dilution) in massage to control oily skin and combat fatigue.
Grapefruit essential oil is great when combined with lavender, rose geranium or eucalyptus.
