5 DIY Summer Hair Masks With Lavender Essential Oil
Summer months are cruel to the hair and scalp. The heat and some of your favorite summer activities have negative effects on your hair, leading to frizz, breakage, itchy scalp, dandruff, or dry hair. Combat these summer hair problems with a DIY summer hair mask with one key ingredient: lavender essential oil.
Why Lavender?
Lavender essential oil is renowned for its calming properties when diffused. However, that is just one of the many benefits of lavender essential oil. It also has natural healing, antimicrobial, antibacterial, and moisturizing properties. Lavender essential oil can help prevent dandruff and itchiness as well as keep your hair healthy and strong. Its healing properties will help repair any damage your hair may have sustained over the years. Plus, your hair will smell amazing all day!
In the DIY summer hair masks we will present here, Organic Aromas’ organic lavender essential oil will be mixed with a variety of ingredients that will supplement its properties. Doing so will further boost your hair and scalp’s health.
Hair Mask For Sun-Damaged Hair
Sun and pollution damage causes hair to look dry and dull. You need to repair the hair to revitalize its health and revive its natural shine. This is the simplest hair mask—it only needs two ingredients.
Ingredients:
5-10 drops of lavender essential oil
3-4 tablespoons coconut oil (or olive oil)
Note: Adjust the amount depending on hair length.
Steps:
Mix the lavender essential oil and coconut oil in a container until they are well incorporated.
Optional: Whip the mixture to make it fluffy for easier application.
Usage:
- Apply the hair mask onto dry hair and allow it to sit for 15 minutes.
- After 15 minutes, wash your hair with water and shampoo.
Hair Mask For Brittle Hair
Dry, damaged hair is prone to breakage. In addition to looking dull, your hair will thin out over time. Gelatin contains keratin protein, which helps strengthen hair. Together with lavender essential oil, gelatin will repair your brittle hair and restore its strength and shine.
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon gelatin
½ cup distilled water
1 teaspoon honey
10 drops of lavender essential oil
Steps:
- Heat up water in a saucepan.
- While stirring, add the gelatin. Continue stirring to prevent clumping. Remove the mixture from the heat once the gelatin is completely dissolved.
- Add in honey and lavender essential oil. Mix thoroughly.
- Whisk the hair mask gently until it cools down sufficiently to keep it from hardening.
Usage:
- Once the gelatin hair mask is cool enough, immediately apply onto hair and scalp.
- Massage your hair gently. Then, let it sit for 15 minutes.
- Rinse the hair mask with a shampoo.
Hair Mask For Frizzy Hair
Frizzy hair is annoying and difficult to manage. Maintain your hair’s moisture with this DIY summer hair mask to keep it from becoming frizzy. This recipe makes use of olive oil, which moisturizes the hair and scalp, and egg whites, which help repair split ends.
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons olive oil (or avocado oil)
Egg whites from 2 eggs
10 drops of lavender essential oil
Optional: 5 drops of rose geranium essential oil
Steps:
- In a bowl, combine the olive oil and egg whites. Whisk until well incorporated.
- Add the lavender essential oil and whisk again until fully combined.
Usage:
- On damp hair, spread and massage the hair mask evenly from root to tips.
- Cover your hair with a shower cap or towel for 30 minutes.
- Rinse with water and shampoo.
Hair Mask For Itchy, Dandruff-Prone Hair
Hair that has been exposed to the sun, dirt, sweat, and chemicals from styling will no doubt develop dandruff at some point. You can enjoy your days out in the sun without fearing dandruff later on by using this summer hair mask.
Ingredients:
4 tablespoons aloe vera gel (or more for thicker or longer hair)
2-3 drops of lavender essential oil
Steps:
Combine aloe vera gel and lavender essential oil in a bowl. Mix well.
Usage:
- Apply the hair mask onto your scalp all the way to the tips of your hair. Massage the mask onto your scalp.
- Leave it on for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
- Rinse with warm water.
Hair Mask To Stimulate Growth
If you want strong, thick hair this summer, this DIY summer hair mask with lavender essential oil, castor oil, and cedarwood essential oil is perfect for you. Castor oil and cedarwood essential oil stimulate hair growth, while lavender essential oil ensures that you hair stays strong and healthy no matter the length.
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons avocado oil
1 teaspoon castor oil
10 drops of lavender essential oil
5 drops of cedarwood essential oil
Steps:
Mix avocado oil, castor oil, and lavender and cedarwood essential oils in a mixing bowl.
Usage:
- Apply the hair mask all over your scalp and massage gently. You can leave this on for 1 hour or overnight.
- Wash with shampoo and water after.
