Ease Headache Pain with Essential Oil by Organic Aromas

One of the most effective uses of essential oils is to heal headache and migraine pain.  Essential oils can help target the main causes of headaches from reducing inflammation to clearing sinus pressure to even, relieving stress and anxiety.  The best way to treat headaches is with a blend of essential oils.  Mixing a couple of really great oils can help reduce and relieve headaches quickly.  You can either apply them diluted directly to the affected area along your temples, scalp, sinuses, and forehead or you can put a few drops in a diffuser for inhalation therapy.   Here is a list of the best essential oils you can mix to help ease headache pain:

Rose Essential Oil

Rose oil is a vasodilator, which means it helps widen the blood vessels.  So rose oil is really effective for people who experience migraines because they are caused by the constricting of blood vessels.  Rose oil helps your blood vessels deliver oxygen to your brain so that you can get over your migraine quickly.

Rosemary Essential Oil

Rosemary oil is a stimulating anti-inflammatory.  So it helps improve circulation by allowing your body to deliver more oxygen to the brain.  So it is great for migraines and for headaches associated with drug and sugar withdrawals among others.  Rosemary oil is also a powerful anti-anxiety treatment.  So it can also help with stress-induced headaches.

Basil Essential Oil

Basil oil is a muscle relaxant.  It is great for treating tension headaches, especially when applied topically.  Basil has also been shown to improve blood circulation so it can help deliver oxygen to the brain.  So it is also an effective treatment for migraines, hangover headaches, and drug and sugar withdrawal headaches.   Plus basil has a calming effective, so it can help reduce any stress or anxiety associated with the headache.

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender oil is an antidepressant and an anti-anxiety.  Lavender oil also helps support the limbic system, so it is great for headaches associated with stress and anxiety.  Lavender also has sedative properties so it can be used to treat headaches caused by insomnia or help you relax and sleep when the pain from a headache is keeping you awake at night. A few drops in a nebulizing diffuser will relieve the pain quickly.

Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint oil is probably the best essential oil for treating tension headaches.  Peppermint is cooling so it reduces muscle tension and tightness and inhibits muscle contractions.  It also can stimulate the blood flow.  So it is a great topical treatment for tension headaches.  You can also apply it diluted on the neck and shoulders to relieve pain, since tension headaches tend to impact the entire upper body.

Eucalyptus Essential Oil

Eucalyptus is an expectorant.  It can help clear your nasal passages and relieve sinus pressure, so it is great for relieving sinus headaches.  Eucalyptus is also an anti-inflammatory so it can help reduce headache pain.  Plus Eucalyptus is very calming so it can help relieve the anxiety and stress that lead to bad tension headaches.

Melissa Essential Oil

Melissa essential oil is an expectorant, which helps clear blockage from sinus cavities and chest congestion.  So it is great for helping improve the flow of oxygen to your brain and reducing pressure headaches.  Melissa oil is also very relaxing and can help relieve any excess tension or stress, which can tighten the muscles around your shoulders and neck, causing bad headaches.

Roman Essential Chamomile Oil

Roman chamomile oil is one of the most soothing, calming essential oils there are.  So it is a great way to treat headaches from stress.  It is also a great remedy for insomnia related headaches and will help you relax enough to get to sleep.  Roman chamomile also helps detoxify the body so if your headache is being triggered by allergens or toxins, it can help remove the triggering agent.  Roman chamomile oil can also be taken in a warm tea.

Marjoram Essential Oil

Marjoram essential oil is an antidepressant, antianxiety, and has sedative properties.  Marjoram is also a muscle relaxant and can reduce the muscle pain associated with tightness.   Marjoram oil is great for treating stress and tension headaches.  Researchers believe that marjoram is also beneficial for brain health because it strengthens brain tissue, so it can also help with headaches from hangovers or drug and sugar withdrawal.

These are just some of the amazing essential oils that can treat headaches.  Other oils to check out for headache relief include helichrysum, clove, and wintergreen.  Just remember when using essential oils for medicinal treatments, you need to make sure that you are using 100% pure, organic oil from high quality sources.  Otherwise the treatments will not be as effective or perhaps even bad.  Our essential oils at Organic Aromas are guaranteed to be high quality therapeutic oils.  They contain zero additive or fillers oils, agents or chemicals, so they can be used to effectively treat your headaches and migraines.  So if you are looking for headache relief, check out our selection of fine essential oils.

Ever since I found Organic Aromas, I have never looked back to other brands. Organic Aromas have given me the best information I need. It has indeed helped me with my concerns. Even though Organic Aromas is not a brand I could easily get from off the shelf in my hometown (Asia), I never had any issue in purchasing them and the delivery was pretty fast than expected. Plus that Organic Aromas has always give me a prompt response to every query despite the time difference. In all, I just love Organic Aromas! :)

When I experience throbbing at my temples or pain in my head, I like to smell peppermint oil, cypress oil, winter green and/or rosemary essential oil. I enjoyed this article. I will consider using Rose, Roman Chamomile or Marjoram.

I had suffered for years with migraine headaches, some set off from food allergies & others by environmental causes. Thank goodness for essential oils like those mentioned in this article! I do not get these debilitating headaches as often now that I use the oils and when I do, I have a glass roller with blend of oils and the beginnings of my headache go away in about 5 minutes. No more hospital emergency visits :)

I am new to aromatherapy and have been sampling different essential oils using reed diffusers. These have proven to be relatively weak. After considering different types of diffusers I have decided that the nebulizers are what I wish to use. I truly enjoyed the video showing the hand construction of these diffusers and will be purchasing the Magnificent in light wood. It reminds me of an antique oil lantern and I am sure that my Mom would have picked this one. She truly loved scents and fragrances and used essential oils within her own home.
