Tuesday Blend: The Amber Hour — Vetiver, Sweet Orange & Clove Bud

Tonight’s blend for the fading-light hour: 1 drop vetiver, 4 drops sweet orange, 2 drops clove bud in your Nebulizing Diffuser® — seven drops total, which is plenty of pure oil for a room-sized aromatic mist.

The ratio looks lopsided until you know why: vetiver’s heaviest aromatic compounds — khusimone and vetiverol — are sesquiterpenes with some of the highest boiling points of any oil in a typical collection, well north of 250°C. That low volatility means a single drop reads far stronger and lingers far longer than a drop of citrus ever could, so it takes almost nothing to anchor the blend. Use vetiver like you’d use a pinch of salt, not a splash of stock.

Clove bud is doing the quiet work here. Its eugenol content sits chemically between vetiver’s smoky base and sweet orange’s bright top, so instead of smelling like two unrelated oils sharing a room, the blend reads as one warm, continuous note — earthy at the bottom, spiced in the middle, citrus-lit on top.
