What Essential Oils are Good for Snoring

Chances are, if you sleep alone, you have no idea if you snore through the night. If you sleep in the same room, or even the same house, as another person, you might have heard all about your loud snoring over a bleary-eyed cup of coffee.

Some think that those who snore are luckier than those who live with them. If you’ve ever been kept up until all hours of the morning or spent a restless night waking up every hour to the sound of a jackhammer, you might want to consider what essential oils are good for snoring.

What Causes Snoring?

Almost everyone snores on occasion. Snoring is simply the way that the tissues in a person’s throat vibrate when the airflow passes them during sleep. Those who have chronic snoring that is loud and disruptive might be affected for reason such as:

  • Alcohol consumption. When it comes to snoring, alcohol can cause the throat muscles to relax and lead to airway obstruction.
  • Nasal issues. Those who have a deviated septum or chronic nasal congestion tend to snore louder and more frequently. With a cold or sinus infection, snoring can become more pronounced.
  • Sleep deprivation. Those who cannot sleep well are missing out on crucial hours of deep sleep and tend to snore more.
  • Thick palate. The palate inside the mouth can be lower, thicker, and softer and cause a narrow airway; this can lead to snoring.
  • Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). This is a serious condition that can cause chronic snoring and gasping if breathing stops during sleep.
