7 Top Happiness-Inducing Essential Oils
Every human being experiences a raft of emotions depending on the stimuli. Sadness and happiness are the two primary feelings. When you are of sound mind, happiness is always the feeling you strive toward. We all want to be happy all the time. But what exactly is happiness? This is a positive energy that the Oxford English Dictionary defines as ‘feeling or showing pleasure or contentment’.
Happiness is therefore a state or a variable – it is momentary. With this knowledge therefore, there are things we have to keep doing to achieve happiness. One of the best and positive ways to induce this great feeling is through essential oils. Research has proven that these aromas can boost your mood while reducing stress. The most basic purpose of aromatherapy is to breed and bolster happiness. Aromatic essential oils are innumerable and play many roles corresponding to their strengths and composition.
Knowing the best oils and DIY blends for happiness is therefore essential. The list below contains the best picks to diffuse for instant feeling of pleasure and contentment.
Essential Oils To Induce Happiness
1. Marjoram Essential Oil
Native to the Mediterranean, the marjoram plant is a popular herb whose leaves are used to obtain marjoram essential oil. The oil extracted through steam distillation can be pale amber or pale yellow in color. This thin, spicy and woodsy oil has been used for centuries for various applications.
Marjoram has the power to boost your mood while promoting happiness. It works by calming your mind and body while having a sedative effect. When feeling sad or angry, diffusing marjoram sparks positive vibes to change your mood. The oil has healing properties that tackle stress and anxiety.
2. Mandarin Green Essential Oil
This essential oil has a citrusy, sweet aroma with fruity tones. It is extracted from the rind of the mandarin orange through cold-pressing. These oranges are believed to have originated from Southeast Asia. This uplifting oil has been widely used in Ayurvedic medicine. The oil contains sedative and anti-anxiety elements responsible for the calming effect to the mind.
It also induces quality sleep by alleviating anxiety. Diffusing this oil is the best way to enjoy the benefits. However, you can use topically or with a compress among others. You can blend this oil with a host of other oils including lemon, basil, geranium, clary sage and many more. After using this oil, avoid exposure to direct sunlight to evade phototoxicity.
3. Clary Sage Essential Oil
This oil is produced through steam distillation of the clary sage plant. It belongs to the sage family and has been used for a long time as a medicine. This plant is found in virtually all continents and comes with a sweet floral scent. This pale yellow oil will boost your happiness by reducing anxiety and tension. Clary sage oil has also been found to improve confidence and self esteem while fighting depression.
Research has found that this oil has hormone balancing properties. When your hormones are balanced, feelings of moodiness and anxiety are kept at bay. It is ideal for people who are feeling lonely or have gone through some trauma. Because it has sedative effects, this oil should not be used before driving or operating machinery. It should also not be used by pregnant women.
4. Lavender Essential Oil
In aromatherapy, lavender oil is the most popular when it comes to triggering happiness. This versatile oil is derived from the leaves or flowers of the lavender plant through steam distillation. This herb can be grown at home and is widely produced in France. This floral oil has a thin consistency and is pale yellow in color. To promote a good mood, lavender oil works by easing anxiety and reducing stress. It reduces nervous tension and helps with headaches and migraines. Its relaxing effect works on the nerves to achieve calmness. When meditating, this is the best choice for you. It can be blended with tea tree, vetiver, geranium and a host of many other oils to have a better effect.
5. Fennel Essential Oil
Derived from fennel seeds through distillation, this oil is excellent in inducing happiness. It provides emotional support and works very well when you are struggling with self doubt and low self esteem. This sweet yet peppery and spicy oil comes in a pale yellow color and has a thin consistency. You can blend fennel oil with lemongrass, ginger, lavender, rosemary and many other oils. If you suffer with epilepsy, avoid this oil. It should not be used by children and pregnant women as well.
6. Bergamot Essential Oil
This essential oil has been proven to reduce cortisol (a stress hormone) in the body. It replaces feelings of anxiety with happiness. It has been observed to lower heart rate and blood pressure for ultimate relaxation. If you are grappling with mental fatigue and even physical lethargy, this is the perfect oil to diffuse.
7. Rose Essential Oil
There is nothing more romantic than the scent of beautiful roses. This happiness-inducing oil reduces anxiety and provides a whole new outlook. This notwithstanding, rose oil enhances libido and can revive your romantic relationship.
Final Thoughts
Happiness is something you strive for every single day. The best happiness-inducing remedies are indeed from nature. Essential oils when used properly will not harm your health. Get addicted to the wonderful benefits of aromatic oils naturally. Adding oils to your health and happiness routine will surely impact your life positively and of those around you. Always use high quality oils. It is however futile to enjoy maximum benefits if you don’t have a quality diffuser. The best diffuser is one that allows you to enjoy 100% pure oil after diffusing. As you can see, happiness may not be out of reach when aromatherapy is on the table.
