Top Benefits and Uses of Sweet Ginger Essential Oil

Did you know the spice that is known as ginger actually gets its start underground? Ginger comes from the root of the ginger plant, and though it isn’t much to look at, it has many uses beyond spicing up a meal or making all-natural ginger ale.

Discovering Ginger

Popular in Chinese and Asian cuisine, it is believed that ginger first came into use for its tenderizing properties that softened the meat in a dish before cooking. This made the meat easier to digest and gave it a wonderfully spiced flavor. Ginger was also used as a preservative to keep food from spoiling. Today, ginger is still a popular ingredient in meat marinades and dressings. Though ginger root has its origins in India and China, it is now commonly found and used all over the world.

Using Sweet Ginger Essential Oil

Sweet ginger essential oil is made when the fibrous root is steam distilled, producing a concentrated essential oil. There are many benefits and uses of sweet ginger essential oil that go beyond the kitchen. With its strong and warm aroma, it’s perfectly suited as an addition to your nebulizing essential oil diffuser to bring a sweet and comforting scent and a sense of balance to the home.

Top Benefits and Uses of Sweet Ginger Essential Oil

Sweet ginger is a base oil, meaning that it holds its properties longer than other essential oils; this makes it excellent to mix in the nebulizing diffuser with other warm oils that have middle and top notes, such as sweet orange or Ylang Ylang.

Benefits and Uses of Sweet Ginger Essential Oil

Sweet ginger essential oil is warm, soothing, and comforting. It has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, can be used as a stimulant, and is well-known for its anti-nausea compounds.  This is why are so many benefits and uses of sweet ginger essential oil to improve health, well-being, and even quality of life.

The top benefits and uses of sweet ginger essential oil include:

  • It can sooth the stomach and reduce motion sickness. There’s a reason why Mom gave you ginger ale to sip on when you didn’t feel well as a child. The anti-nausea properties in ginger root can ease stomach symptoms quickly. When travelling in the car, take a bottle of sweet ginger essential oil along to inhale when you start to feel queasy.
  • It’s a digestive aid. If you have trouble with your digestive system, sweet ginger essential oil is a natural way to find relief. It works to ease stomach and bowel related issues, reduce gas, and can even help increase appetite in those who have trouble eating. As an antiseptic, sweet ginger oil can treat those with food poisoning and intestinal infections.
  • It reduces inflammation in the body. Zingibain, one of the substances in sweet ginger essential oil, is considered to be a natural anti-inflammatory. This can reduce pain in those who suffer from muscle aches, arthritis, headaches, and even migraines. Those who have joint pain will benefit from the warming qualities that can penetrate the area and make sweet ginger essential oil so soothing.
  • It’s a natural way to treat respiratory problems. Sweet ginger essential oil is a natural expectorant, making it very effective in getting rid of the mucus and phlegm that trouble the throat and lungs during cold and flu season. It can also improve breathing in those who suffer from bronchitis and asthma.
  • It can relieve stress and improve sex. Sweet ginger essential oil is soothing and relaxing, but also has stimulating properties that work as a natural aphrodisiac to combat male impotency. These same properties can relieve stress, depression, restlessness, and anxiety in both men and women alike.

Ginger is amazing, I eat ginger, make ginger tea and use the essential oil. I mix a drop with a carrier oil for a massage when I suffer from a skin ailment as well as a protective measure for my respiratory system. It doesn’t hurt that the oil smells amazing.
