Top 10 Peppermint Oil Benefits and Uses
Peppermint essential oil is one of the most popular oils to have in your essential oil collection. When diffused in a nebulizing diffuser, the oil can have benefits for relieving pain, easing nausea, revitalization, and so much more.
Peppermint Oil Benefits For Alleviating Inner Body Symptoms
-
Pain Relief
When plagued with muscle pain, peppermint essential oil can provide natural relief. Inhaling the vapors of peppermint essential oil helps to relax muscles and therefore ease muscle tension, and the oil may even be even more effective when mixed with a carrier oil and applied directly to the affected muscle groups.
-
Eases Sinus Pressure
Allergies and cold or flu bugs can really wreak havoc on your sinuses. The burning, inflammation, and congestion can really wear your whole body down, and peppermint essential oil can provide a great solution. Peppermint essential oil not only helps to relieve the inflammation, but it is a natural decongestant to clear your sinuses of all of the mucus clogging them up.
-
Reduces Cravings
If you’re on a diet, hunger pangs and cravings can spell disaster for your efforts. Peppermint essential oil has been shown to curb these hunger pangs and alleviate those intense cravings in a natural and healthy way and without upsetting your stomach.
-
Improves Focus and Promotes Energy
If you’re feeling run down or sluggish, aromatherapy with peppermint essential oil can clear away that irritating brain fog. The naturally cool and refreshing scent of peppermint essential oil has an energizing effect without the effects of caffeinated beverages like coffee and energy drinks.
-
Fever Reduction
When battling a fever, peppermint essential oil can also be used to help in bringing your temperature down. The oil is naturally cool and has a cooling effect on the body, which when used with over the counter fever reduction medications, can be just the edge you need to start feeling better.
-
Reduces Nausea
The most cited, and most heralded, benefit of peppermint essential oil is its power against nausea. Even medical professionals often suggest peppermint essential oil as a safe way to settle the stomach, and some studies have found that peppermint essential oil works better at curbing nausea in chemotherapy patients than some conventional medications. Lying down and enjoying the refreshing and soothing scent from a diffuser for as little as 10 to 15 minutes can make a dramatic difference.
-
Improves Dandruff
Adding a couple of drops of peppermint oil to your favorite shampoo and conditioner can help to ward off dandruff from the scalp. The natural antiseptic also has a positive effect on lice infestations, and revitalizes the hair for a healthier looking mane.
-
Natural Insect Repellent
Ticks, mosquitoes, moths and even spiders all have a natural aversion to the strong fresh scent of peppermint oil. Rather than using harsh chemical based bug repellents, peppermint essential oil can serve as a safe alternative. For the home, diffusing peppermint essential oil can help to keep the bugs from taking over during the warm spring and summer months.
-
Acne Treatment
Acne can pop up at any age, and while it’s commonly thought to be an adolescent problem, it can be just as common in adults. Peppermint oil’s anti-microbial properties make it a strong contender against acne breakouts.
-
Sunburn Relief
When the skin is damaged from sunburn, it can do more than simply hurt. Sunburn sucks moisture from the skin’s surface, it can raise body temperature, and it can even cause the skin to suffer from long term damage. Peppermint essential oil can help to keep the skin clean, cool, and hydrated, giving it its best chance to heal.
Great tips for Peppermint oil-definitely works well for sinus – can’t wait to try it in my new diffuser !
I had a cold last week and got rid of our humidifier because of all the horrible things I read about them. I used the peppermint oil in my diffuser and set it next to my bed per the recommendation of my sister who also has one. I was amazed that it actually helped me breather better when i was sleeping. I could actually breathe. I wish there was more “how to” for the oils outside of just the diffuser. Especially ratios for dilution of some of them. I’m still not keen on putting on my skin.
This oil is so incredibly useful. It’s number two in my book next to Lavender.
