Cinnamon Essential Oil Benefits

When it comes to essential oils, cinnamon is by far one of the most versatile around. It’s sweet, pervading aroma is soothing, and that’s not all that cinnamon essential oil has to offer – it also has a plethora of health benefits and healing properties, and paired with our essential oil diffuser, you can easily find a use for it all year long.

Cinnamon Kills Bacteria

Cinnamon essential oil is often used into aromatherapy blends to rid the air of bacteria and help promote health during those months when just about everyone is coming down with some type of sickness. It has many effective properties, including:

  • Antibacterial – to rid the air of bacteria and help prevent respiratory infections;
  • Astringent – to clean the skin and naturally restore its form;
  • Antiseptic – to reduce the risk of wounds becoming septic;
  • Expectorant – used to break up and expel phlegm from the lungs and throat;
  • Anti-fungal – used to kill mold-causing fungi;

Health Benefits

As mentioned previously, cinnamon is used to promote health, both in mind and body. It has hypoglycemic properties to lower blood glucose levels, as well as an antidepressant to help alleviate the symptoms of mental health disorders such as depression and anxiety.

It isn’t just used to alleviate internal and mental issues, however, because cinnamon is an essential oil with anti-rheumatic and analgesic traits. It is also sometimes used to soothe rheumatoid arthritis pain, and is a natural pain reliever for general joint pain. To use it for this purpose, you can take a few drops (3 should be enough) of cinnamon essential oil with 2 tablespoons of a carrier oil, such as olive oil. Once it’s diluted, the mixture can be rubbed on the painful area, or anywhere you find stiffness in muscles or joints.

Relieve Toothache

Because cinnamon essential oil has a high amount of eugenol in it – found also in clove essential oil – it can provide relief from toothaches. Simply put a few drops of cinnamon essential oil on a cotton ball and place between the teeth, above the tooth that is hurting, for quick relief.

Increases Circulation

Thanks to its natural circulation boosting properties, cinnamon essential oil naturally helps to keep the arteries free of blockage to prevent dangerous plaque buildup. This makes this essential oil beneficial for those suffering with heart disease and those who have suffered a heart attack or stroke. Also, because it contains anti-platelet compounds, it also helps to benefit arterial health.

Promotes Healing

Because of its natural healing properties, you can mix cinnamon essential oil with a carrier oil, such as olive oil or coconut oil, and massage it on the skin to embrace its antimicrobial traits. This helps to promote the healing of skin conditions such as rashes, acne, and infections. In addition to this, because it also contains bacteria killing properties as well, it will help to keep the area clean and free of bacteria that can cause infection.

Treats Sore Throat

Cinnamon essential oil, when paired with hot lemon water and honey, can be a wonderful helper in preventing mucous buildup in the nasal passages in order to keep them clear. You can also use this mixture in the mornings to help curb cravings and give you a leg-up on immune system function. Together these ingredients also work well to ward off inflammation and reduce pain from sore throat, mouth sores, toothaches, or a cold.
