Creative Ways To Use Essential Oils In The Shower
Essential oils bring so much to the table. They can help you calm down, energize you, or simply help maintain overall well-being. Most of the time, essential oils are discussed in relation to diffusing. That is because using a nebulizing diffuser is the most efficient way to get the benefits of essential oils. But did you know that you could also use essential oils in the shower? Read on to find out how you can go about it.
1 – Dry Evaporation
You can reap the benefits of essential oils while you shower by letting the essential oil evaporate while you shower. Add 5 to 10 drops of essential oil onto a washcloth and bring it with you. Place it on your shower caddy or in an area near the water but not where it may end up getting wet. This way, the essential oil will evaporate as you shower.
2 – With A Washcloth
This method is slightly less efficient but highly relaxing. Mix 5 to 10 drops of your favorite essential oil with a carrier oil such as sweet almond oil. Mix one part essential oil to 20 parts sweet almond oil and place on a washcloth. Place the washcloth on your chest when you shower. Inhale the scent as the warm water from your shower vaporizes the essential oils.
3 – With A Tea Diffuser
Do you have an extra tea diffuser? Before you throw that away, consider using it to diffuse essential oils while you shower. Fill your tea diffuser with Epsom salt, and then add 5 drops of your preferred essential oil. Hang your tea diffuser on your showerhead or shower caddy, and let the essential oil vaporize while you shower.
4 – Shower Melts
Shower melts are an effective way to slowly release essential oil into the air while you shower. They’re similar to a DIY bath bomb. Once you have created your own shower melt, simply place it on the floor before you shower. The water will slowly melt it and release the scent of essential oil.
What you need:
1 cup cornstarch
½ cup baking soda
10 drops of your chosen essential oil
Large bowl
Whisk
Silicone tube tray
Spray bottle (with water)
How to make shower melts:
- In the large bowl, mix cornstarch and baking soda. Afterward, add the essential oil/s.
- While spraying water on them, mix the ingredients.
- When the mixture is moist enough to form shapes, start pressing it into the silicone tube tray. If you don’t have a tube tray, you could also shape the mixture with your hands.
- Put the tray in the refrigerator and let it set for at least 3 hours.
- After 3 hours, you can transfer the shower melts into a jar or use some of them right away.
5 – Infuse Your Body Wash
Add 10 to 15 drops of your chosen essential oil to your body wash. Stir it to make sure the essential oil and the body wash mix thoroughly. Then, use it as you normally would. You will get the benefits of your favorite essential oils during your usual shower routine.
6 – Shampoo Add-In
Essential oils also have great benefits for the hair. Incorporating essential oils into your shampoo may solve a lot of your hair and scalp problems. You can either add the essential oil directly to your bottle of shampoo or mix 3 to 5 drops into the amount of shampoo you are about to use.
The Best Essential Oils To Use In The Shower
Each essential oil offers unique benefits. You can use an essential oil alone or combine several of them depending on your needs. Here are the best essential oils to use during your showers:
1 – For Relaxation
Hot showers are a great way to de-stress after a long day. You will feel even more refreshed when you add in essential oils that have calming properties, such as lavender, chamomile, frankincense, spearmint, and sweet ginger. Rose geranium also enhances relaxation and helps with pain relief.
2 – For Energy
Start your day with a boost of energy and motivation when you shower in the morning. These essential oils will be the perfect start to a highly productive day: bergamot, peppermint, lime, and juniper.
3 – For Headache Relief
Before you reach for paracetamol, step into the shower with these essential oils that offer relief for headaches and migraines: cinnamon, spearmint, peppermint, lavender, marjoram, and chamomile.
4 – For Sinus Congestion
Sinus congestion caused by allergies or colds is an annoyance as it hinders your productivity and mood. Essential oils can open airways on days you feel congested to help you better deal with your allergies or cold. Combine the following with a warm bath: lavender, peppermint, eucalyptus, and pine.
